The Motion Picture Association is taking a multi-pronged approach to fighting piracy. An important part of our mission and responsibility is to help educate parents, students, teachers - consumers of all ages and walks of life - about the importance of intellectual property rights, the reasons piracy is wrong, and the consequences of breaking the law.
That is why MPAA Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman in February 2005 created a new Education Department, to develop and disseminate information about copyright protection and awareness.
American intellectual property industries suffer more than an estimated $20 Billion in global piracy losses annually. To combat copyright infringement, the MPAA is working closely with the United States Chamber of Commerce to educate citizens about piracy’s effect on the US economy and the broader American public.
The Chamber recently held a "Fight the Fakes" poster contest, in partnership with Weekly Reader, asking students to create a piece of art that would help educate others about the threats of piracy. Thirteen-year-old Mitchell Nolte of Anniston, Alabama created the award-winning poster pictured below.
